Is a Segway easy to ride?

A Segway (Self-Balancing, battery operated, recreational device) is not only easy to ride, but it’s also a lot of fun! Gliding on a Segway feels like nothing you’ve ever experienced! Step on and your instincts take over. You’ll quickly realize that the device will respond similarly to how you balance yourself – as if it were an extension of your body. Simply lean forward slightly and it will move in response. It all feels incredibly natural and really cool. Be aware that riding a Segway (Self-Balancing, battery operated, recreational device) is highly addictive!

They’re eco-friendly, quiet, and you stand above the crowds. That makes for great views, even if you’re short! Couple that with our tour guide’s narration, and you’ve got a fun and effortless way to take in the sights!

I’ve never ridden a Segway before – will I be able to pick it up quickly?

Your safety is always our highest priority; therefore, we begin each tour with a very thorough orientation of the Segway (Self-Balancing, battery operated, recreational device) and its use before going out to enjoy the tour! Each of our tours will begin with a short safety talk followed by time to personally practice with your tour guide. We will take the time to practice until everyone feels comfortable.

Is it safe?

Absolutely! The marvelous thing about a Segway (Self-Balancing, battery operated, recreational device) is that it contains a gyroscope – allowing the machine to self-balance in response to the rider’s movements. After just a few minutes of training, you’ll see how easy and effortless riding can be!

I’m arriving via a Cruise Ship, can I take the tour?

Yes, our Tours are ideal for Cruise Passengers! Please be sure to provide the Cruise Ship name when completing your booking. We provide a free shuttle service from and back to the Cruise Ship.

Are there any age restrictions?

For safety reasons, a person must be at least 12 years old to ride a Segway (Self-Balancing, battery operated, recreational device). Minors (anyone under the age of 18) must be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

Does the Segway have weight limits?

Yes. For rider safety and to reduce the risk of damage. A rider must not be less than 45 kgs (100 lbs) and a maximum of 120 kg (264 lbs). However, we do have several larger Segways (EPT’s – Self-Balancing Electric Personal Transporter) so if you weigh more – please contact us to arrange prior to departure one of our beefier all terrain device.

Are the Segways safe for people with disabilities?

All guests must be able to easily and quickly step on and off the Segway (Self-Balancing, battery operated, recreational device) without any assistance and requires physical abilities similar to climbing and descending stairs without assistance or use of a handrail. Also, riding a Segway (Self-Balancing, battery operated, recreational device) does require the need to be able to stand for long periods of time.

If I am pregnant can I join the tour?
Due to the risk to both child and mother, pregnant women are not allowed to participate on our Segway Tours.
How fast can the Segway travel?

Each Segway (Self-Balancing, battery operated, recreational device) is equipped with two operational settings, ‘beginner’ or ‘turtle’ mode and ‘standard’ mode. The beginner setting is set to 10 kph/6 mph and the standard setting is set to travel up to 20 kph/12.5mph.

What is your insurance policy?

Kiwi Segway Tours Ltd (the Service Provider) are fully covered by Public Liability Insurance. However, upon signing up for a tour, the Customer is accepting the services rendered by the Service Provider and is thereby assuming any risk, takes full responsibility and waives any claims of personal injury, death or damage to personal property deriving from the services rendered by the Service Provider.

What is your cancelation policy?

Generally speaking, for cancellations greater than 72 hours notice we will gladly provide a full refund upon written notification being received with the exception being any pre-paid vouchers/promotions which are subject to the terms and conditions of the voucher/promotion. For cancellations within 72 hours, no refund will be given. Please check each activity to confirm the exact policy for that activity.

What is your refund policy for 'no shows' or if you cancel an activity?
Generally speaking, we will notify you if one of our activities is cancelled due to extreme weather (some activities still operate in rain) or minimum numbers not being met and offer an alternate date and time. If one is not available we will gladly provide a full refund with the exception being any pre-paid vouchers/promotions which are subject to the terms and conditions of the voucher/promotion.

If you don’t show up to your activity no refunds will be given or if you are running late for the activity and no prior arrangements have been made, unfortunately you will not be able to participate in the activity and no refunds will be given.
